Eavesdrop is a weekly podcast by Kevin Murcko and Yana Afanasieva, published at www.eavesdrop.live. This page explains what information the website and the show's tools handle. Short version: there are no accounts, no ads and no cookies; we count visits anonymously, and we only keep what you choose to send us.
What you send us
The Pitch a topic form asks for a name or alias, an optional contact (email or handle), a type (topic, theory, guest, hate mail) and your message. Submissions are delivered to us through Netlify Forms, our website host. We use them to read your pitch and, if you left a contact, to reply. We don't sell them, share them or add you to a mailing list. We delete pitches when we no longer need them, or sooner if you ask.
Visitor statistics
We use Plausible Analytics to see how many people visit and what they do on the site: pages viewed, the site that sent you, your country, browser and device type, and clicks such as playing an episode, sharing a quote, opening a link to another site or sending a pitch (only that you sent one and its type, not what you wrote). Plausible doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other sites and doesn't store your IP address; it can't tell us who you are. Plausible's data policy.
What we don't collect
The site has no accounts and no advertising trackers, and sets no cookies of its own.
Services the site uses
- Netlify hosts the site and the pitch form. Like any web host it processes technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and keep the service secure. Netlify's privacy policy.
- YouTube plays episodes when you press play, embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Once you play a video, YouTube's terms and Google's privacy policy apply: YouTube Terms of Service, Google Privacy Policy.
- bunny.net hosts our backup copies of episodes and may play them. bunny.net's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces, so your browser requests them from Google's servers.
Our YouTube API use
The show uses a Google Cloud app called “Eavesdrop” with the YouTube Data API, only to manage videos on the Eavesdrop channel itself: setting episode titles, descriptions, chapters and thumbnails. It is used by the show's own account and does not request, access or store any viewer's or visitor's Google or YouTube data. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can review or revoke app access to a Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Social media
We post episode clips and links on social platforms (scheduled through Buffer). If you interact with those posts, each platform's own privacy policy applies.
